Featuring the new Dyson Ball
The Dyson DC07 Cyclone Assembly contains a rod by which the finger lever in the handle releases the bin flap at the base.
On earlier models there is a groove near the top of the rod, that helps to hold the rubber dust bellows in place. The diameter of the rod (5mm) is reduced at this point. Unless great care is taken when removing the handle cover, the rod breaks at this point. It is impractical to repair.
Later Cyclones lack the upper groove (more robust), lack the central guide channel and usually lack a butterfly guide near the base (quicker to assemble).
Here is a replacement rod. It is later type, but will fit all DC07 Cyclones.
If your cyclone assembly feels heavy even when the bin looks empty then it is internally clogged and needs removal of the handle/cover to gain sufficient access for internal cleaning – the cyclone can be washed in its entirety, once opened up. Otherwise start looking for a new vacuum cleaner.
On request I will include basic narrative instructions on fitting the replacement rod.
